                  The Voice

                  Picture
A writer with a "disruptive perspective," Dahlia tells a story that you may have heard 1000 times, in a way that seems to be your first.

After earning her BA [Hons] degree in theatre and political science, she thought she would never have to write again, that is, until she returned to school for journalism. Since then, she hasn't stopped writing. From freelancing to newspapers and magazines across Canada, to ghostwriting for NHL players and entrepreneurs, to penning her own lifestyle cookbook, Dahlia's laptop has created a permanent imprint upon her thighs. Her imprints, on the other hand, have been far more dynamic.

A writer, an actor, an athlete, a polyglot, a body image specialist, a certified personal trainer, and a nutrition and wellness expert, Dahlia is very versatile, and so too has been her career path.

At the age of only 21, she quickly climbed the corporate ladder at Air Canada, securing a dream job. It just wasn't her dream. Then began the nightmare of returning to school. While there, Dahlia also wanted to work as a radio personality, so she created - "Danger Girl" - at 99.9 BOB FM in Winnipeg.

After 48 hours of broadcasting live, while submerged in a tank of water, she helped raise thousands of dollars for the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba - and got the job at BOB.

In her last year of journalism school, the writer (and righter) moved on as an intern at the CBC. She was told not to get too comfortable as CBC never hires interns. Then Dahlia broke a story about police brutality, and got comfortable there for awhile as a reporter and producer.

Soon after, she found herself travelling the world for her work. As an actor, Dahlia felt the pressures of body image, constantly told to lose weight - even when underweight. Disgusted by such absurd pressures, she decided to use her skills as a writer and health nutjob to create Canada's first ever body image awareness program for girls: Bye-Bye, Barbie!.

Since she was a child, Dahlia has always written plays, stories, poetry, and plenty of gobbledygook too. Today, she aims to use her skills to help those around her, and give a voice to those who need one. And she writes very loud.

A Montrealer, Dahlia also grew up in Winnipeg and has lived around the world. She now resides in Toronto with her husband, dog-like cat, and imaginary dog. (Yes, she wants a dog that bad.)
