Bye-Bye, Barbie! ™
It's perfectly wonderful to be nowhere near perfect. So aren't you sick of being told what is beautiful? Aren't you sick of saying you don't care what is beautiful? And aren't you sick of incessantly pursuing beauty anyway?
The aim of Bye-Bye, Barbie! is to deconstruct society's version of beauty and replace it with a more balanced representation and interpretation. A place for us to share our stories of beauty and what is beautiful - especially what is ugly about it, and how it has hurt us.
Unfortunately, we all know there is no quick fix for the problems surrounding disordered eating, eating disorders, and body image issues. More than ever, we need to find ways to think differently about ourselves, the ideals we aspire to, and the ideals to which young people aspire. We need skills, knowledge, and environments that support healthy attitudes.
And that is where BBB comes in.
Bye-Bye Barbie! (in the process of being ™ trademarked) is my revolutionary Canadian dual program that combines a body image health and wellness program with body image theatre. It addresses girls’ needs by focussing on extrinsic and intrinsic wellness and development. Extrinsically it facilitates and fosters social comfort and fortitude. Intrinsically it enhances and constructs healthy character models that are so vital to managing the repertoire of roles needed throughout the various dimensions of life.

I learned so much in Bye Bye Barbie. Like how to be yourself and how other people’s opinions on you aren't important. I really liked how we kept a diary on everything. Dahlia made it so we could have fun and learn at the same time and let me tell you I did. My favourite part was when we made little skits for our presentation. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!

My daughter has come home with insights about culturally held beliefs that she can now challenge in her own way. I have heard only positive comments about my daughter, as well as the other students in her class. I believe that Dahlia has strength as an expert and she is open and inviting. She speaks from her own personal experiences and in this way encourages students to express their own experiences as well. Bye-Bye Barbie was worthwhile and well thought out.
