Meg Morrison, Gillette Drafted 2 contestant
Dear Meg,

I must say, you handled the whole Drafted situation in quite the classy way, especially for someone who professes to think of Launy as a “great guy.”

Yes. I read your blog entry, and now hope you will read mine. It’s okay if you don’t read this however, because it - and you - will be exposed to enough eyeballs regardless.

Really, I am probably not supposed to write you about this, as it involves my husband. In actuality, I have to write you about this, as it involves my husband.

So, Launy was kicked off Gillette Drafted, falsely and harmfully accused of breaching confidentiality.

And by the power of deductive reasoning you were able to conclude that my husband is indeed a liar, a “great guy,” but a liar.

Greg Sansone told Launy, he had no right to defend himself on the show or address his accuser, because it is not a court of law. Well, as a member of the media, Mr. Sansone should understand the concept of fairness and balance, a concept that doesn’t require the walls of a court. And as a “journalist,” that is something you too should be able to understand.

Naturally, you know what happened in Vegas, since you heard some audio from a telephone call with Launy, heard a baseless accusation against Launy, and because, as you said “I wanted to shout from the rooftop when I got my phone call, so I am sure he was the same.”

Well, Meg, that is proof enough – for anyone who reads The National Enquirer.

It is curious that you were even able to hear audio from his phone call, over the sound of the bus that you continue to throw him under.
Picture
Greg Sansone, VP of TV for the Score
I understand it is not enough that Launy vehemently denies ever telling the media that he was chosen as a finalist in Drafted. And, I understand it is not enough that the very media people, who were with Launy at the NHL Awards, strongly deny ever being told by Launy – or anyone for that matter – that he was a finalist.

I understand this, because in the illogical world of reality TV, where calculated editing passes for the truth, logic is often only found on the cutting room floor, and now that has been swept under the rug.

So, here, finally, is the first published account of the situation as it unfolded:

Launy stayed at the Gold Coast Casino, a less than desirable casino and bingo hall to those who frequented the Palms Casino across the way. (The Palms being the luxury hotel, where the Awards were held.)

To our knowledge, no other media or players from the Awards stayed at the Gold Coast or were ever even there. It was certainly not a destination.

Picture
Launy & Martin Brodeur, 2010 NHL Awards
Remember that phone call, in which you heard Launy scream, inferring that media in the casino probably heard him too? It did not take place in the casino. You cannot use a phone in one, and once he received the call was kicked out.

He went outside, to a private area, with no one around. There he screamed, “Yes! Yes! Yes!” I was by the pool, probably 250 metres away, and I did not even hear him.

From there, Launy came to tell me the news, and went back to the blackjack table, where the strangers asked him what happened. He told them he might finally be in the industry he’s waited to be in his entire life.

Launy, by the way, is also a part-time actor, who has done national commercial spots. When he gets a call that he is cast in a commercial or movie, he gets excited as well. It could have been any industry. It could have been anything.

But you “got a sense that he would have a hard time hiding his excitement,” thus he must be guilty.

Meg, the guy was at the NHL Awards, interviewing the biggest names in hockey. If he is able to talk with his hockey idols, such as Alex Ovechkin and Martin Brodeur, all while leading great interviews, I’d say he’s pretty capable of keeping his excitement in check.

What’s more, showing excitement and telling a secret are two very different things - about as different as a winner - and a sore winner.

By questioning Launy’s character, you question his journalistic integrity. And without doubt, journalistic integrity needs to be questioned in this scenario. But not Launy’s - yours.

Some may say there could be a conflict of interest presented, due to Sansone’s appearance on your radio show, the day after the elimination episode aired, without giving Launy the chance to respond.

When Sansone appeared on your show last week, you both continued to call his character into question.

Picture
The Schwartzcaster
In the name of balance and fairness, again, fundamentals of journalism, Launy did ask if he could have the opportunity to respond on your show. A request denied by you and your co-host.

Of note, the same way you have misconstrued logic to assert that Launy breached confidentiality, that same argument can be used to assert that both you and Sansone breached it as well.

Based upon your reasoning, doesn’t it seem like a breach of confidentiality for Sansone to announce on Edmonton radio, “I would suggest that the people of Edmonton follow the show very closely, because Meg does the city proud.”?

And wouldn’t a statement in your blog seem the same,  where you refer to Launy’s elimination episode, “… this next episode will set the tone for the entire season.”?

Speaking of tone, for someone who said it was an “awkward elimination” based on the circumstance, you didn’t show any signs of awkwardness in your tone when speaking with Sansone - to Edmonton – about Launy. Your voice said it all.

Interestingly enough, what was not said was anything of substance.

On your show, Sansone stated, “I’ll let the episode speak for itself… Based on the kinds of things [Launy] was saying and how the story was changing over the course of several conversations.”

Well, Meg, the story did change, but even with all the editing, it was not Launy’s story that did. He said he never told any media he was drafted, and despite the possibility of forgiveness if Launy admitted to the accusation, he still stood by his word.

Then came the second meeting requested – not demanded – by my husband. (This happened before the trivia challenge, and not after it, as Sansone said on your show.)

He asked if Sansone was available for five minutes. What seemed like 30 minutes later, he entered (in what appears to be full make-up), saying Launy just pulled him out of a meeting.

Do you really think some shmuck has the power to pull a VP out of a meeting?

In that conversation, Launy did his best to recount everything and anything he said in Vegas concerning the show. At which time, he said while he was at the blackjack table he mentioned this could be his chance in an industry he’s always wanted to be in.

If anybody’s story changed it was Sansone’s, whose focus went from accusing Launy of talking to a group of media using the words I’m top-10 for Drafted, to accusing him of talking to strangers at a blackjack table about a mystery industry.

Picture
In an effort not to misconstrue, let’s review:

1. Less than 24 hours before the first day of the competition’s production, Sansone receives a phone call from a source – whom he won’t name – weeks after the alleged incident took place.

2. The only proof of any conversation between Sansone and the anonymous tipster is B-roll of Sansone talking on a cell phone, outside a building. For all we know, he could have been ordering a pizza.

3. Launy vehemently denies ever telling the media – whose job it is to publish secrets – his big secret. Many members of the media from Vegas have come forth to corroborate his story. And nowhere, before the Score officially made the announcement, did it ever appear in any forum that he was selected as a finalist.

Drafted was absolutely talked about in Vegas. At that point, with a strong social media campaign pushing Launy to be chosen, he already had many supporters. His proponents, in the media, would often introduce him to others saying, “This guy’s gotta be top-10 for the show.” Maybe someone misunderstood that sentence.

Again, why would someone who has been working his entire life through adversity, jeopardize an opportunity of such enormity, by telling the worst secret-keepers about it?

And how could someone with such loose lips keep private information given to him by high profile hockey players - or keep a secret for two months that he was booted from a show so unceremoniously?

Meg, think back to when we met on Peter Street, in Toronto. Remember, how you told Launy and me that he got a “raw deal” on the show?

I feel bad for you, it must take a really long time in make-up, surely two faces take longer than one.

As a self-professed “journalist” – or even as just a contestant in the show – you should have at least the common sense, if not the professionalism, to mind what you say about your peers.

Launy has been nothing but gracious (and healthfully over-trusting) towards you and the show. That same respect should be afforded to him.

And, Ms. Morrison, the next time you throw somebody under the bus, I suggest you look both ways, because it is very easy to get hit when you are not looking.

Hey,

Question? Wasn't this contest for people wanting to get into the job? Ms. Morrison is in a sportscasting position already.

So... Should she not be disqualified for not applying for the position as a member of the sportscaster community.

In Alberta as in here nepotism and preferential treatment seems pretty blatant on this one.

Wonder if she will answer questions in my documentary?

Very well written, Dahlia! I couldn't agree with you more!

Launy, always gives people the benefit of doubt, and finds the good in everyone. He has taken the high road with class, with his head held high. It's too bad that others can not do the same.

I would hope that those not knowing Launy, can see past the lies against him, and of reality TV!

One day Launy will get his big break; one that he deserves, with all of his honesty, class, and integrity!

Dahlia, you also have done a great job of taking the high road with honesty, class and integrity!

If you could only see my standing ovation in response to this article.

Dear Meg, this isn't The Bachelorette. As for journalistic integrity, if you haven't seen it, look up Shirley Sherrod. There are two videos of her speech. The first, which was aired to the public, and is an appalling, false testimony to Shirley' entire speech; the media tossed her not under a bus, but under a tank, no thanks to cut and paste journalism. The real video, (all the facts) was released at a later date; too bad it was too late.
Good luck on the next round.

P.S. If you "in fact" heard the audio, let's all hear it. Let's discern fact from fiction. I too can cut and past audio/video clips

Seems that Launy got a raw deal but I can't tell you how many times I have heard about people getting raw deals over and over only to persevere and finally get their just reward in the end.
Rest assured it will all work out for Launy in the end. He has worked too hard to give up now.

All I can say is "wow". With the preponderance of evidence against Launy, how can it not be as obvious as that to everyone exactly how it all went down?

Shame on you for Dahlia having to pointing out all the compete inaccuracies and vague details purported by Sansone throughout.

Amazing fact checking, simply a stunning display of journalism and the integrity it REALLY takes to be a Score man... Well, if what I witnessed on episode 1 was anything near what it takes to work at the Score, then it's just as well Launy is gone. He's so much better off.

I can only imagine what Meg is dealing with at this point in time. Will she keep that lovely stained blue dress she wore to the meeting with Sansone? Will she have it dry cleaned or keep it to use against hime when the time is right? She seems like that type.

Talk about the Crusades... burn him, he's a witch.... no trial, no evidence, no facing your accuser or even being able to know who it was.... skullduggery and douchebaggery led by everyone's favourite bobbleheaded sports announcer, and his aid, Meg (dont call me Monica) Morrison. Showing B-Roll of Sansone talking on a cell phone was dead on.
It's television, and they're clearly trying to create tension. However, as you said, this relates to credibility and character in the industry. It's not like just getting voted off the island, or out of the loft on real world Albuquerque.

I have over 2000 friends on my facebook, and my friends have many friends on their lists, and i believe in "exacting" someones injustices towards an innocent victim wherever possible. And Launy was indeed falsely and harmfully accused...he was sabotaged... And I think she needs to be exposed for this; thus experiencing a TRUE dose of reality. After all, I think someones dreams merit that.

I watched her and realized how perfectly disingenuous she is and how she got off on hurting someone in a way that I think she must be oblivious to. If one pays even slightly close attention, it's not that hard to see through the cracks on reality tv shows.

I hope she reads this article and looks at her faces in the mirror, and realizes what kind of woman she really is.

Mackenzie does have a point. All of these posts, tweets, and even comments on or about other peoples blogs all have good intentions, but could also come across as overly negative - to the point where any compassion Launy might have gained from being removed so quickly and cruelly from the show could be in jeopardy. Insisting so passionately about something not being true can often cause people to suspect the opposite of what one is saying.

Launy has friends in the Public Relations industry - now would be the time to call in some favors and help put a positive spin on this while last nights episode is still fresh in everyone's mind.

*Ahem*. I am going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there. Let's take a look at Meg's most recent twitter:

"Apparently it's my fault Launy got kicked off "Drafted" haha...http://www.megmorrison.ca/1/post/2010/09/drafted-episode-2.html#comments"

"Haha", indeed. Now, do we see Launy posting immature commentary the likes of that which I have posted above? Um? Hmm? No, no we do not. Shocking, I know! The people who are supporting Launy are having their say, which is perfectly fine, because anyone would be upset if their favorite person got unfairly accused based on a lie. There's a difference between being let go based on merit, and being let go due to an unprofessional drama-bomb built up to get ratings. Guess which category Launy falls under.

At any rate, I know you're trying to scare Dahlia into submission, but truth is, Launy isn't going to have a problem getting hired based on the support of his fans alone. If anything, it's going to be easier for him, because the only worthwhile people are the ones who don't believe any of the tripe Greg Sansone spewed forth. Now, if Meg continues to post stupid tweets like that on her account, my advise would be to pull that Public Relations thing on her.

I'd like to say my piece.

Bottom line...Launy was sabotaged. We could debate this until dooms day (which I would wager is approaching fast and gaining momentum thanks to reality tv...which we embrace btw).

But i'm going to have to subject all opposition (of the truth..and to the real reality here), to my audacity and I will say that beyond any reasonable doubt, Launy was cruelly (and crudely) sabotaged. For no reason other than "it was interesting to watch!".
Anyone who find themselves in disagreement is transparently wrong and deserves no merit even for their "opinion"..., and at very least...because i say so. Im not interested in peoples right to their opinions at this point because there REALLY are no opinions in this situation..only facts. (Oh who do i think i am!)
So let me explain why I have such audacious conviction...Because much like reality tv...IT'S INTERESTING!! Arent I?

Who here really sees through the cracks of reality tv? Anyone? Its 2010, we live in a time of indifference. Reality tv has become the epitome of that.

The entertainment industry (show business) stepped in and found a brilliant way to entertainment North America by hurting people, destroying lives and dreams by dangling the the bait of opportunity in-front of them.

By Meagen (as one example) merely taking place on such a show; is perpetuating this very problem (called reality tv in the time of indifference) and therefore, she is a problem and already guilty of many crimes that she is put in a position to get away with (kinda like the FDA...tantamount analogy i think)

In 2010 she can't plead ignorance anymore to the reality of what she is actually doing to people's lives. Those who can see through the cracks know what the true intentions of reality tv is about.

It is NOT about finding the next "musician, singer, dancer, artist/talent of any kind, or sports broadcaster"... That is but the excuse reality tv has brilliantly conjured up to allow them (the entertainment industry) to get away with such a crime and be "covered" with the disguise of such a "generous opportunity" to showcase some unknowns talents or abilities and make it "humorous and exiting/dramatic along the way...which is the perfect recipe to create "entertainment" (which is why no one looks at is as "a crime" instead we unknowingly embrace this...and it keeps coming in all sorts now)

The excuse of finding "the next big thing" lets these shows get away with going through a PROCESS in which innocent people are subjected to humiliation and being put in a more vulnerable situation then they ("the contestants"), can possibly fathom while basking in the delusions of grandeur and seizing the "seeming" opportunity.

It is solely reflective of the "entertainment industry" (once again). It is the perfect, most brilliant and "interesting" manipulation that has been discovered.

It is a game that has enabled the "entertainment industry" to interact with innocent and good people and exposes them.
While "the contestants" are serious and putting everything they have into "seizing the opportunity" (regardless if they are aware or unaware, ridiculous or impressive) The powers that be are milking them and playing a game with real human emotions to entertain an audience.

Let's not get mixed up here. What argument does Meagan really have? Who is going to defend her?

Would you like me to go on??

Obviously, Launy did SOMETHING to be kicked off the show...Yes, Launy was good in his first challenge, but come on people!!! What's done is done, no going back now.
Meg has an opinion, just like every other contestant on Drafted. She is fantastic on her radio show. The city of Edmonton loves her.

Quit picking on her and just deal with it. There's always next year Launy :)

FOR THE RECORD:

Meg Morrison has now stated (to someone who supported Launy):

"You're missing the point, Ash. You see it is my fault he was eliminated. It's my fault, it's Sansone's fault, its the other 8 contestants fault, it's Cabbie, Renee, Sid, Paul......."

1. Neither Launy, nor I ever blamed Meg Morrison for Launy being ousted from the show.

2. Neither Launy, nor I ever blamed any of the contestants for his departure. And the only judge who's antics we called into question was Greg Sansone.

Once again, baseless accusations disguised as a bold statement.

@ Mackenzie: While I appreciate your point, a line has to be drawn somewhere. People cannot continue to drag Launy's name through the mud. This was a careful and thoughtful decision. The piece was not derogatory, but instead spoke to someone who has incessantly and relentlessly harmed my husband's name. This was not a rant or a rave. This was a factual account and a response to someone's attempts to not only shut Launy up, but damage his character in the process.

And at no time has Launy ranted or raved. He has handled this entire situation with grace.

@ Everyone who has commented:
Thank you for taking the time to read this and respond. Much appreciated.

Since I was in Vegas for all of August and have lived there 4 times over the last 25 years I don't need a travel tips link to know when and where I can get calls at a Vegas casino and especially one like the Gold Coast that's not as high tech on squambling calls in gaming areas.

So Sansone making up a source that obviously he considers trustworthy just to sabotage a specific contestant he never knew beforehand that is innocent makes sense?

Even though your husband is in some of them, they are still property of the network.

Obviously you are bitter over Mr. Schwartz getting shafted, but newsflash: This happens a lot! Get over it and move on!

If anything, you are just drawing more attention to the show, and probably putting their viewership into the 100's now.

As for the photos, they're on the internet, thus free to use unless it's stated somewhere on the Drafted website that they cannot be republished without permission.

People seem to foolishly think this "exposure" is good for the show, and will magically increase it's ratings tenfold (especially if you're saying only 100 plus or so, that's just sad). If that's the case, then the people who start to watch the show based on this unfortunate circumstance are a bunch of morons who deserve to have their brains fried further by such filth.

Talk about being ungrateful. The Score travels across the country to search for the 10 best potential sportscasters. Launy makes top 10, and is kicked off for being shady. Be thankful for the privileged that it was while you were on the show!

Mr. Sansone has every right to kick anyone off the show. It's HIS show and ultimately, the winner of Drafted will be working for Greg. He didn't have a good feeling about him so he got rid of him. Would you want someone working for you that didn't have their facts straight, pulled you out of a meeting and was shady all in the first day? Chances are, you would let them go too.

Blame your wife Launy, because she is making you look worse than you even did before.

To Popey,

"Mr. Chances are, you would let them go too."

If Mr. Sansone had every right to kick someone off his show, wouldn't he have done it before the show ever went to production? Do you truly think he only received word of this after filming began? If someone knew of a breached confidentiality regarding their VP friend's show, they would have called a lot sooner.

As well, do you REALLY think a reality show contestant honestly has the ability to pull a VP out of a meeting? That whole thing was staged to add drama. If I were a VP, there's no way an intern could get me out of a meeting.

Use your head man, this is all about ratings and manufactured drama.

The only thing I DO agree with you about is that Launy's wife does need to let it go. She needs to let Launy get back to doing what he does best - running his website, interviewing NHL stars and continuing to build his own portfolio and reputation. Arguing with a bunch of people over the integrity and honesty of her husband when they don't know him at all is like beating your head against a brick wall.

Dahlia - seriously - let it go. Use your time and energy to promote Launy positively and let this thing go. The Score is a third rate network and would never have helped Launy get anyway. I guarantee you that Paul Brothers would give his left nut to do what Launy has done in the last couple of years.

Phil,

Thank you for your comment. As you can see, despite whatever comments I've received, I haven't replied. I have let it go.

Just so to understand, I wrote this article to:

1. Give the FIRST published account of what actually happened; and,

2. To expose duplicity of a harmful nature.

Even through very personal attacks, I never bothered "arguing" the point after this article, because you are right, there is no point. But like I said, I had to do it for the above reasons. Now I am done.

As someone who does the hiring at my company, I see no issue with how Launy's wife has handled this. If someone's wife protects him from unprofessional conduct in a professional and articulate way, it leads me to believe he has a good support system and would make for a good employee. I admire the way Launy and his wife are handling the whole ordeal. They are tactful, professional and well spoken. Keep doing what you are doing.

This blog sounds like a bitch with sour grapes.

Launy was terrible!

I think Launy was lying out of his ass even after reading this. You put that Drafted was talked about in Las Vegas.

I think Sansone made the right decision even if Launy was trying to defend himself. He may not have remembered all the details, but his explanation didn't sound right and who else would "tip" The Score about Launy. Who has an axe to grind?

I think the right decision was made.

As someone who knows Meg, I believe this story is dead on right about her.

As someone who doesn't know Launy, I believe him.

Well written piece. Thank you.

This piece of 'journalism' has way too many commas in it.

It isn't well written, and is also mostly made-up garbage.

That is all.
