Hosni Mubarak is a horrible dictator. He runs a country where constitutional rights are suspended, censorship is legalized, religious freedom is hampered, and democracy is passé.

And for those reasons, it is unfortunate that the low life is stepping down.

Even the largest minority religion and most persecuted of Egyptians groups – the Coptics – agree. Under what would likely be an Islamic fundamentalist government, Egypt’s seven million Coptic Christians could be at risk of suffering a similar fate to six million Jews, Gypsies, and homosexuals - this in addition to the Holocaust of sorts that the Copts have already faced.

Has it really come to this? Has it become so bad that bad is the new good?

Some years back, I found myself at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem, giving a tour to a group of tourists.

I was not a guide however. And it was only my first time at the museum.

But, as a Jewish girl, I could speak to those tourists like no other Jew there, because I could speak German.

Yes. I gave a group of non-Jewish Germans a tour through the Holocaust, in a way they had never seen, in a way many would not imagine.

In honour of Remembrance Day, this is a story I wrote a few years back ...

The lone bugler sounds the horn and interrupts a fight between a little boy and his younger sister. My thoughts are interrupted too, as I remember that eventful day - June 25, 1989 - when my older brother Shy left for Israel. Nobody knew he had really left for war. Not even he.

I am at the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, next to Vietnam veteran Gerald Buffie.

Buffie went to war as a fighter – my brother went as a tourist.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Helen Thomas on winning the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

And let us all take this opportunity to celebrate hate and anti-Semitism, in recognition of Thomas’ integrity that has indeed brought her so far.

Hate thy neighbour!

Go back to your own country! (Everybody but the Aboriginal People who were here first.)

See, I feel like an achiever already.

A while back, prominent Egyptian lawyer and women’s rights activist, Nagla Al-Imam, proposed that young Arab men should sexually harass Israeli girls as a means in the resistance against Israel.

And though I would like to take credit for the clever facetiousness, in calling Al-Imam both prominent and a women’s rights activist, I am sadly just stating the facts.

Ever hear of the Sámi people in Sweden?

Does anyone know how the Basques are treated in Spain?

The Sámi (or Laplanders) are indigenous peoples of Sweden and the largest indigenous ethnic group in Europe.

Sweden is touted as one of the most egalitarian countries in the world; yet, the inequality with which the Sámi are treated is astonishing. Even though legally entitled, their rights have been unafforded.

Many haven't even heard of the Basque people. According to international reports they are ill-treated and tortured by Spain.

There is a job opening at the US Department of Homeland Security, and you may be eligible for a high-tech, front-line security position. Not only will America depend upon you, but so will the rest of the world.

Of course, in order to find out who is worthy of the position, there is a list of criteria (as found at JobMonkey.com) to weed out the riff-raff:

Position: Airport Screening Officer

Qualifications: An entry-level job, requiring only a high school diploma or GED. All training is provided on the job, although most new hires will have to take a 12-hour instructional class.

If I hated you, and said that I planned to wipe you and your entire family out, would you call the police? Would the police set up a meeting with me to find out what – if anything – I did like about you, or anything in general? Would that make it better?

It may for President Obama.

Let’s start with the health care reform bill (don’t worry, we’ll move on quickly). It is the hot topic right now, which has been the breeding ground for a hate topic too: The wipeout.
